Clinical Lab Scientist

About Pear Bio

At Pear Bio, we are personalising cancer treatment selection because every cancer is unique. To achieve this, we’ve developed a medical device that cultures patient tumour samples, monitors cancer cell behaviour during drug exposure, and eliminates all the ineffective treatments for that patient.

We are a VC-backed startup based in London. To grow our business, we’re looking for a clinical lab scientist to join our early-stage team. Will you be the one?

Job Description

This is a highly collaborative role as you will engage with internal researchers to standardise primary cancer cell culture protocols and with external partners to run clinical trials.

You will first learn from our tumour engineer and biomaterials engineer how to process primary tumours, encapsulate cells in our proprietary hydrogel and organ-on-a-chip device, administer anti-cancer drugs, and obtain cell images through microscopy. You will also learn from our computer vision engineer to generate patient reports that compile how cancer cells behave when exposed to different cancer treatments. Once you establish a reproducible workflow, you will execute the associated protocols for an upcoming clinical trial. In the long term, you will help commercialise our precision medicine technology.

Job Responsibilities

  • Engage with researchers internally to establish benchmarks and to translate experimental protocols into reproducible SOPs

  • Process & culture patient-derived tumour samples

  • Conduct drug dosing and imaging assays

  • Record keeping of patient data for clinical and internal use

Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences

  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory running lab-developed tests with high quality and consistency

  • Experience conducting drug dosing assays

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Master’s degree in the life sciences

  • Experience in confocal microscopy

  • Understanding of cancer biology

What’s in It for You:

  • Competitive compensation in line with industry standards

  • Stock options in a growing startup

  • Open work environment where your opinions are valued

  • High career growth & personal development in a fast-paced environment

Please note:

  • You might be required to work in an occasional night shift when a fresh tumour sample arrives at the lab late in the day and has to be processed immediately. As a result, your work schedule can be flexible.

  • We are unable to sponsor work visas at this time. Please confirm your ability to work in the UK without visa sponsorship before applying.

  • The position is not eligible for remote work. If you are not based out of London, you will be expected to relocate.
